AD Marker Practice

     Today I wanted to work on even and graded washes, as well as layering colors and using an AD blender. I found that when creating two even washes one horizontal and the other vertical, that it makes a nice even color with little to no marker lines visible. For the graded washes on this page, I started with a gray bottom layer staring from cool 9, 7, 5, then 3. After that I drew a top layer with a colored marker to see the shadow it creates. I did this again but blended the gray layer with the blender to make a smother tone transition. I also tried creating new colors with the blender.

Wood Floor

     Today I wanted to mix medias so I decided to use marker and color pencils. I used the markers as a base color and the pencils to give additional hue of brown and texture.

     I started with a one point perspective grid to draw on. Then I placed another piece of trace paper on top of the grid to color on.

     I started with three different, but similar hues of brown markers for the wood flooring. Then I used two different color pencils on some parts of the flooring to add some contrast in the hue's chromas. Then I used a peach color pencil all over the floor to give it a nice shine. After that I used a white color pencil to give the illusion of light coming in from the window.

      As you can tell in the last image, the white color pencil was not to visible so I placed some black watercolor paper under the trace paper to make the white more visible.


     This fast drawing taught me several, like using different colored paper for a background to give an image a scene of a different time of day. Next time I will use a darker blue to give a more realistic night view. I also learned how important it is to make sure that there isn't any gaps. I had  way to many. Next week I will give this one anther try to see how I have improved.

Shooting Star

     This image was done on black watercolor paper with pastels.

     I drew this image to test out what pastels can do. I found that pastels are quite messy and hard to control. I heard of a trick to work with pastels that help control them, if your place baby powder around the places you do not want the pastels to go then it will help keep them in the area you want.

     This is an image of a shooting star. I drew this because the night before I saw a meteor shower. This was what I think a meteor to look like.

The Orange Women

     I am trying to draw a new image every day with different types of medias. This image is called "The Orange Women" it was drawn with a light orange color pencil base and highlighted with AD Xylem-based markers, as well as a white color pencil for highlights.
   
     I learned that if one works quickly with the AD markers, that you can create a nice graduation of colors without visible strokes. As well as how to use different gray bases to saturate a hues' chroma. I wanted to just work with marks for this image because I wanted to practice using them to create a base for pastels, color pencils, and paints to grow on. The white color pencil helps make the image brighter, but I fell that a white pastel or gouache paint would work better to give it a good shine.

     I used orange a blue because they give the image a split complementary composition; the black and gray hair and background help focus the attention on the face. I made the women's eyes green for no  particular reason, I have always found green eyes fascinating.
